Reading Curriculum
*This year, we will be using the MAISA units to teach reading. These units are intended to help students continue to grow and develop as independent readers. An important aspect of this is having your students read at home.
*We will be sending home backpack readers, which are leveled texts that your child should read with you. Below are a list of questions that you can ask your child while they are reading:
*Look at the cover, can you make a prediction about the story? What clues helped you make that prediction?
*How is the character feeling? What evidence shows you that?
*Why do you think the author choose to use that word?
*What connections can you make to the character?

Writing Curriculum
*This year, will be using the MAISA Writing Units. We will begin by exploring the idea of oral story telling. For the first few weeks, students will build a solid foundation of storytelling and will then learn how to transfer these ideas to pencil and paper.
*A great way to practice this skill at home is to have your child tell you one story each day. Ask your child about their school day or events that happened at a friend's house.
